KAMC EMERGENCY CARE PROTOCOL

As you know, Kildaire Animal Medical Center and its sister hospitals have always had a doctor on call to handle after-hours emergencies. This service has been great in some respects – not all pets get sick on weekdays between 8a.m. and 5p.m., and it is essential that someone be available to assist patients in need regardless of the hour. However, the service has had its drawbacks as well. Doctors working alone at night are limited in the tasks they can perform by themselves, and our hospitals are not equipped to provide twenty-four hour monitoring for critical patients.
Thankfully, veterinary medicine has evolved to offer a better alternative. We now have after-hours veterinary clinics that offer a full team of doctors, technicians and staff for emergency patients. After-hours clinics can perform such tasks as treating emergency patients and monitoring post-surgery or other patients who need special attention during the night and on weekends.
We have arranged for the
Animal Emergency Clinic of Cary to handle our patients’ after-hours needs. These veterinarians specialize exclusively in emergency medicine, and provide full-service care overnight as well as on weekends and holidays. Because of our special relationship with the
Animal Emergency Clinic, you may request that your personal veterinarian be contacted and kept informed of any issues or treatments that might be necessary. We will also keep in close contact with the doctors at the
Animal Emergency Clinic to insure a seamless transition in the morning.
The
Animal Emergency Clinic is located not far from us at 220 High House Road in Cary. They are open nights, weekends and holidays. You can reach them by phone at
